ent Women’s Arts Club
Saturday 7 June 2014
3.30-5.30pm: Creative workshops at The Cube – a special collaboration with The Cube adult education centre, Folkestone (£3)
6-8pm: Kent Women’s Arts Club at the Quarterhouse (free)
Guest Speaker: Kate Smith
You are warmly invited to the third Kent Women’s Arts Club (KWAC), a bimonthly networking event for arts professionals in East Kent. This series of events marks the run-up to the Folkestone Triennial (30 August – 2 November 2014). For those new to the Club, the idea is to offer women in the arts a chance to connect informally with other interesting women, to fuel ideas and ambitions, share experiences, and to recognise and promote the calibre of creative women in Kent.
This event is a little different to the others. This month, The Cube adult education centre in Folkestone is offering an afternoon of creative workshops for KWAC members and friends, between 3.30pm and 5.30pm, before the usual Club event at the Quarterhouse (6-8pm). You can attend either/both sessions, and it is not necessary to have attended a previous KWAC event.
The Cube (3.30-5.30pm)
Join other KWAC members for introductory creative workshops led by The Cube’s regular tutors, for a subsidised rate of £3. Choose from:
· Printmaking: monoprinting and dry point etching
· Textiles: Batik painting and extreme knitting
· Jewellery: make a simple ring or bangle in silver
To book a place, please email Abigail Levitt (Abigail.Levitt@kent.gov.uk) or call her on 0845 606 5606. The Cube, Tontine Street, Folkestone, Kent CT20 1SD.
Quarterhouse (6-8pm)
Each event begins with a short presentation by a noteworthy cultural practitioner who has local connections, followed by a chance to ask questions and then free networking over drinks. We are honoured to welcome Kate Smith, who founded the UpDown gallery (pictured above) in Ramsgate in 2012. UpDown Gallery is Kent’s premier commercial gallery, hosting exhibitions featuring the best of modern and contemporary British, European and American art. Past shows have featured works by artists including Patrick Caulfield, Cedric Christie, Sir Howard Hodgkin, Henri Matisse, Bridget Riley and Pablo Picasso.
This event is free as usual, but please book before 1 June, so that we can gauge numbers for catering and seating purposes. Please RSVP to owenkimm@creativefoundation.org.uk.
Folkestone Quarterhouse, Mill Bay, Folkestone, Kent, CT20 1JR
Please do pass this on to any creative women you know. All are very welcome to this, and subsequent events. Please sign up to the Folkestone Triennial mailing list for KWAC updates.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
