Stand up for art education and for your town! Help Bob and Roberta Smith celebrate that FOLKESTONE IS AN ART SCHOOL
The Creative Foundation has invited Bob and Roberta Smith to make an artwork for Folkestone Triennial 2017 that will address the current state of art education, following his earlier work All Schools Should be Art Schools. His radical response was to recognise that Folkestone Is An Art School – and maybe by extension all towns should be art schools.
To make as bold a statement as possible he needs your support! We are very excited to be running our first campaign on Art Fund’s crowdfunding platform Art Happens, that with your help will cover Folkestone in banners, posters and artwork designed by Bob, declaring and celebrating that FOLKESTONE IS AN ART SCHOOL!
How you can help Bob!
Your donations will fund the visual declaration, the commission’s public face and its visual identity. From the train station to the wind swept Martello lookout tower, we want the UK to see this visual declaration and join in with the campaign!
We plan to work with local secondary schools to create their own declarations and run a public workshop where participants will respond to the commission’s rallying call. Your donations will fund street banners, banners on venues and a mobile school that will mark out the breadth of the art school. This isn’t a conventional art school and it isn’t a building – it’s all the buildings and homes where art is happening - all the creative skills of artists and practitioners - all the resources and spaces - that together show that Folkestone is already an art school and many other towns can be art schools too!
Support our Art Happens campaign and help Bob and Roberta Smith celebrate Folkestone!
