Every December since 2015, Folkestone has transformed into a living advent calendar with a different door opening each evening to reveal a surprise live performance.
Led by JimJam Arts, Folkestone Living Advent Calendar started as a sparkle of an idea from Stockholm, where a different window in the city opens each night to reveal a short story and musical performance.
Local community groups and organisations have the opportunity to get involved in the project, either by taking part in a workshop or performing behind a door themselves, and each evening Folkestone Living Advent Calendar collect for a different local charity. Some of the groups and charities they have worked with include the Rainbow Centre and Winter Shelter, Folkestone MIND, KRAN (Kent Refugee Action Network), Touchbase Care, Moving Memory, local schools and Canterbury Christ Church University.
Folkestone Living Advent Calendar is supported by Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund, Creative Folkestone's Festivals Fund and Folkestone & Hythe District Councillors.
