Casey Brett, Branch and Brush
About me:I'm Casey and I'm an artist and art lecturer. Having worked in arts education for nearly two decades I started a side project called Branch and Brush delivering art clubs and art workshops a couple of years ago. I work all over the south-east, from village halls to project spaces, from primary schools to HE working with the young and old alike - whoever needs art!
How South East Creatives (SECCADS) has supported my business:Once I started Branch and Brush I realised I had no idea about the ins and outs of actually running a creative business. I attended the South East Creatives workshops and mentoring programme and was given invaluable advice and guidance covering everything from HMRC to social media.
I was assigned a mentor, David Crump from Cockpit Arts, who has been amazing in helping me to figure out realistic goals and helped me achieve my first funding grants during the COVID lockdown from Arts Council England and my local council. This enabled me to offer an online art club for free and this ran for a full 21 weeks out of my vintage caravan!
I am now about to move to a local studio and get back to offering in-person workshops. Without the help that I gained from the workshops - not just in a practical sense, but from having the chance to be in a room full of like-minded creative practitioners to sound out ideas with - I don't think I would have felt confident in moving my business onward.
