Creative Folkestone has unveiled a stellar line-up of authors, writers, and thought leaders for the 2024 edition of the Folkestone Book Festival. Running from Thursday, 14 November to Sunday, 24 November, the festival promises to be an unmissable celebration of literature, ideas, and conversation.

Curated by the award-winning author and journalist Sophie Haydock, this year’s programme is set to captivate audiences with a diverse array of voices from across the literary world. Stand-out names from the latest announcements include John Boyne, the acclaimed author of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Roberto Sendoya Escobar, the son of notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar, who offers a unique perspective on history, Steven Moffat, the celebrated screenwriter behind Doctor Who and Sherlock, and Sally Abé, one of Britain’s most innovative chefs and food writers.

Reflecting on the line-up, Sophie Haydock, Curator: Boos, Ideas and Community, said, “This year’s programme is a testament to the incredible breadth of talent we are fortunate to welcome to Folkestone. From powerful storytelling that bridges the past and present to thought-provoking discussions on contemporary issues, we’ve curated a festival that speaks to our times and our community. Folkestone Book Festival is more than just a series of talks—it’s an invitation to engage with ideas that can transform the way we see the world.”

Haydock, who took on the role of curator after a decade in journalism and a celebrated debut novel, The Flames, is passionate about making the festival a space for both established and emerging voices. “We are committed to creating a festival that feels inclusive and vibrant, a beacon during the winter months where people can come together to be inspired by the power of words.”

The 2024 festival will continue its tradition of offering a platform for both literary giants and rising stars. Audiences can look forward to an eclectic mix of events, including panel discussions, author readings, and interactive sessions designed to engage readers of all ages.
