Creative Folkestone welcomes applications for creative and educational activities in our community space ‘Block 67’

At Creative Folkestone, we are dedicated to fostering creativity and supporting our local community. One way in which we achieve this is through providing access to a space called Block 67 in our Glassworks building in Mill Bay.

When not being used for Creative Folkestone’s creative classes, space can be available for local creatives and arts and community groups for occasional classes, workshops, research and development projects, filming, photographing, and more.

Block 67 is part of the Glassworks building, and is a large ‘black box’ measuring 101sq/m with facilities that includes three toilets and two accessible toilets, which are shared with the other Glassworks tenants.

Main access to the space is on Mill Bay. There is a small step at the doorway, but the main space, and access to the toilets are all on one level. There is an additional level access point further along the building, with step-free access to the community space along a short corridor.

The criteria for applying for use of the space is:

  • The activity must be for creative or educational purposes
  • The applicant must live or work in Folkestone and surrounding areas
  • You must have public liability insurance for any activity involving anyone other than yourself (e.g. if members of the public will be coming for a class, workshop, performance, etc)

For longer term activities, Block 67 can be used for up to three months consecutively, and if additional time is required, an additional application can be made, with a maximum of four consecutive quarters of the year. This process has been designed to be as fair as possible, to maximise time local creatives and community groups can take advantage of the space, and to ensure that over time, there will be opportunities for new people and groups to use the space.

The cost of using this space is for paid classes is £10.00 per use. For the purpose of creative or educational research and development the space is free to use.

To apply, please provide these details:

  • Your name, address, email and phone number (and/or your arts or educational organisation’s name, address, email, phone number and website)
  • A brief description of the activity you’re planning (maximum 250 words).
  • Confirmation on whether this will be a solo activity, and/or if other creatives will be participating, and/or whether members of the public will be attending.
  • Confirmation of whether any public activities will be chargeable (i.e. if people will pay a fee to attend)
  • Which days and dates you’re interested in (up to three months).

Please email mariannemurray@creativefolkestone.org.uk with the above information.

Applications will be reviewed quarterly, with these deadlines for each application process:

  • For activities January to March, application deadline is: 31 October
  • For activities April to June, application deadline is: 31 January
  • For activities July to September, application deadline is: 30 April
  • For activities October to December, application deadline is: 31 July

There may be some flexibility with these dates, depending on availability, but we encourage early applications to ensure your request can be processed in good time.

Please note that due to Creative Folkestone’s existing activities, the space is not available for full week blocks. Generally, the space is available evenings and weekends.

We are particularly eager to support those who have been overlooked by traditional avenues of support. Our goal is to create an inclusive environment where everyone has the chance to express themselves and contribute to the creative landscape of Folkestone. Whether you're an emerging artist looking to develop your skills or an established creative seeking new collaborations, we welcome you to be part of our thriving ecosystem.

Please note – if you are looking for a more permanent space, whether an artist studio, an office, a retail space or a residential unit, we have many spaces available in our Creative Quarter.
