Fly With Me is an epic kite flying festival in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan. It invites people across the UK and Europe to make and fly Afghan kites on Saturday 20 August 2022 to remember one year since the fall of Afghanistan.
With over 15 events taking place across 6 countries, Fly With Me is open to all. It invites people from everywhere and of all ages to celebrate Afghan culture through the simple joy of kite flying and calls for equal and fair treatment of all people seeking asylum. It sends a message to the world to ‘Remember Afghanistan’.
Join us to fill the skies with colour in this massive act of welcome and hope.
On Saturday 20 August, you are invited to drop in on kite decorating workshops at Casa Anacaona on Harbour Beach to decorate and fly a simple kite. There will be artists and makers on hand from 1pm to 2.30pm to help you personalise your very own kite. At 3pm, we will gather in a mass of joyful colours and streamers to fly our kites together.
1pm to 2.30pm kite decorating workshop, 3pm to 4pm kite flying. This is a free event. No tickets are required, just pop down. You are also welcome to bring your own kite to add to the throng!
Our kite making workshop on 19 August at Block 67 has unfortunately sold out, but you can get a free kite-making pack from Good Chance Theatre. Or join us at Casa Anacaona on Harbour Beach from 1-2.30pm on Saturday 20 August to make your own!

Good Chance Theatre previously created The Jungle, exploring the experience of refugees in the Calais Jungle co-produced with the National Theatre and Young Vic, and The Walk with Little Amal, a co-production with The Walk Productions Ltd and Handspring Puppet Company, featuring a 3.5m high puppet of a young Syrian refugee girl highlighting the journey taken by refugee children across Europe. Little Amal came to Folkestone in October 2021 and last year won the Time Out Best Public Artwork Award.
