John Boyne: Fire

Sorry, this event has sold out

Acclaimed Irish author John Boyne — renowned for his bestsellers The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and The Heart’s Invisible Furies — discusses his latest novel, Fire, which tackles themes of family, conflict, and redemption. Set against a backdrop of historical events, Boyne examines whether the harrowing experiences of youth shape the people we become.

Known for his powerful storytelling and compelling narratives, Boyne takes readers on a chilling yet utterly compelling psychological journey to the epicentre of the human condition, posing the age-old question: nurture or nature?

Fire weaves a tale as fiery and intense as its title, delving into the lives of characters forced to confront their deepest fears and desires. With Boyne’s signature blend of emotional depth and rich storytelling, this novel is set to be a memorable addition to his celebrated body of work.

During this event, John Boyne will discuss the inspiration behind Fire, share insights into his writing process, and explore the themes that make this novel a standout in his career.

John Boyne is the author of 16 novels for adults, six for younger readers, and a collection of short stories. His 2006 novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas has sold over 11 million copies worldwide and has been adapted for cinema, theatre, ballet, and opera. His many international bestsellers include The Heart's Invisible Furies and A Ladder to the Sky. He has won four Irish Book Awards, including Author of the Year in 2022, along with a host of other international literary prizes.

This event will be chaired by David Shriver, a board member of Creative Folkestone and trustee of Wimbledon BookFest, who will guide the conversation and enrich the evening's experience.
