Lucy Caldwell, Naomi Wood & Yan Ge: Stories of Motherhood and Mayhem
Sorry, this event has sold out
Award-winning short story writers Lucy Caldwell, Naomi Wood, and Yan Ge come together to discuss their work, which often explores the complexities and chaos of motherhood and family life, among other attention-grabbing themes. Join them for an engaging evening as they share their inspirations, writing processes, and the nuanced realities of motherhood.
Be transported by compelling short stories and lively discussions with these talented writers: Lucy Caldwell, author of Openings, is a two-time BBC National Short Story Award winner who lives in Folkestone. Naomi Wood, known for This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things, grew up in Hong Kong and also won the BBC National Short Story Award. Yan Ge, whose English-language debut short story collection Elsewhere was released last year to critical acclaim, brings a fresh perspective to the conversation.
The trio will delve into their literary explorations of uncooperative mothers, blending humour and heartache in their narratives. This event promises an engaging discussion on the complexities of maternal relationships and the challenges of balancing family dynamics with shifting identities.
The event will be chaired by festival curator Sophie Haydock, a champion of the short story. She has worked for the Sunday Times Audible Short Story Award and is the Associate Director of the Word Factory, which supports emerging writers. Together with Zoe Gilbert, she hosted the Word Factory short story club and her own story, Mudlarks, was broadcast on BBC Sounds in 2023.
