mapdance: work by Robert Clark, James Cousins, Sarah Golding & Keira Martin
Sorry, this event has sold out
mapdance brings together 14 fantastic young dancers, three newly commissioned dance works and a restaging of Robert Clark’s acclaimed Closer from 2021.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience dynamic, theatrical and beautifully crafted work by both established and emerging contemporary choreographers performed by the University of Chichester’s professional graduate dance company.
The mixed repertory offers a refreshing mixture of dance theatre, intricate lyrical choreography, fast-paced athleticism and wry humour. It is a programme that will appeal to both seasoned dance viewers and audiences new to dance.
“leaping and turning in zesty spurts with an insouciance that leaves nothing to chance.” DANCE CRITIC DONALD HUTERA
Robert Clark - Closer
Made in 2021, Closer explores the desire for and repercussions of change. 14 people consider their future selves and attempt to simultaneously control and break free of the present whilst looking to each other to find meaning and a way forward.
James Cousins – Things that I don’t speak of
James Cousins delves into our inner thoughts and insecurities in this new creation for map. As the world around us grows more divided and our human interactions are replaced with digital connections can we carve out a piece of paradise to exist within?
Sarah Golding – STATE
Sarah Golding’s new work is rooted in the relationship between music and dance, exploring different ways to translate music into and out of the body.
Keira Martin – In-between the Lines
Keira Martin fuses both the old world and the new through her joint love of traditional Irish dance and contemporary arts. In-between the Lines openly highlights social and political issues related to identity, gender, social justice, culture and class.
