In this illustrated talk, Tereza will show images and film documentation of research and development for Mothers without Hands and share her own experience and motivations for making the work.
Multidisciplinary artist, Tereza Bušková (born 1978, Prague) lives and works in Birmingham. Following a BA in Fine Art, she completed an MA in Fine Art Printmaking at the Royal College of Art. Her practice deals with ritual, tradition and craft, celebrating and reinterpreting Slavic and other European customs through the media of print, performance and video.
At once intuitive, visionary and rooted in thorough anthropological research, Tereza’s practice involves diverse communities through traditional craft-making and baking workshops inspired by Slavonic folklore. The resulting artworks transcends geographical borders and, by evading categorisation, function as mythic histories unbound by time.
The talk will be followed by a chance to hang out and chat accompanied by a DJ set inspired by Gypsy Roma music and traditions made with students from Folkestone Academy.
