Discover the Creative Heart of Derek Jarman’s World.

Step inside Prospect Cottage, the extraordinary home and artistic sanctuary of renowned filmmaker, artist, and activist Derek Jarman.

Nestled in the stark yet striking landscape of Dungeness, Prospect Cottage is where Jarman, alongside his long-time companion Keith Collins, transformed a humble fisherman’s hut into a beacon of creativity and resilience. Since 1986, this unique space and its iconic garden have inspired some of Jarman’s most celebrated works, serving as a vivid reminder of his bold artistic vision and enduring legacy.

Today, you can experience the magic of Prospect Cottage just as it was during Jarman’s life. From the garden’s poetic arrangement of flora and found objects to the treasures within the cottage walls, every detail offers an intimate glimpse into the life and work of one of Britain’s most daring creatives.

Prospect Cottage and its contents were acquired for the public following the 2020 campaign supported by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, Art Fund, the Linbury Trust, the Luma Foundation and the Roger De Haan Charitable Trust as well as those who gave anonymously and the contributions of over 8,000 members of the public.
