"Photographs offer a silent image of the world, sound has been exiled from them."
Emmanuelle Waeckerle is a London-based multidisciplinary artist, performer and improviser working with the materiality and musicality of language and its other voice. Through a series of simple exercises that rely on free improvisation and deep listening practices, her workshop will invite you to tune into and release the silent speech of images.
"Through a metaphorical breathing in of what one sees with a literal breathing out of what it has triggered - sounds, words, gestures, textures, emotions, sensations and memories come to the surface".
Participants should bring a copy of a photographic image that means something to them, a sound-making objects or instrument and a stopwatch (available on most phones).
The workshop is of particular interest to artists, photographers, musicians, improvisers, writers, amateur or professional, with an interest in text or graphic scores or the interplay between text, image, and sound.
The workshop will be followed by a one-off collective performance at 7pm at The Brewery Tap where some of the projected images will be reconnected to their silent speech.
